Primary songbook11/4/2023 ![]() Five minutes! That is all it took her to come up with these words. We were out to lunch with friends and she immediately whipped out her phone, wrote out a few lines and emailed them to me. Since she obviously had particular ideas, I asked her to get me started with words and concepts for the song. She said recently that this was my chance to write a good one and get it submitted. My sister has been after me to write a new baptism song for years. It must be a monumental task to choose the hymns and songs for use throughout the entire Church! He was so tired of the straining and stressing over the new hymns that he asked if we would just sing some of the old familiar tunes. He said that he oversaw part of the selection process of the 1985 Hymnal. We were preparing to use a few of the newer hymns as part of Stake Conference. Haight came to our Stake Conference back when the 1985 hymnal was still pretty new. Wonder if that will be the case as they work to create these new music collections? Elder David B. He didn't give me any real guidance, only that the songs would have to be award winners in the Music Submissions contest held yearly. I asked the General Music Chairman once what the committee's criteria was for choosing hymns or children's songs to go in a new songbook. I actually don't know if any of their hymns were submitted, but I do know that none of them were included into the 1985 hymnal. Many of my musical friends were writing new texts and setting them to music or finding existing hymn texts and crafting new tunes to go with them. When I was in college in the late '70's, there was also a buzz going around about submitting hymns for a new hymnal. It will make all the difference for them going in with the confidence and familiarity you have built through your time with First Piano Journey. So many people of my acquaintance are talking about submitting new children's songs or hymns for the new editions of the Primary Songbook and LDS Hymnal. Once they are confidently playing many of these songs and the notes are familiar to them they will be in a great place to start weekly lessons with a teacher of your choice. However, whenever you can please encourage your child to use as many fingers as they can! Tell them “all your fingers need a turn” or fill in some finger numbers yourself if you feel the need. Again, the purpose of this is for them to get familiar with the piano and learn the notes so we are keeping it simple. You will also notice there are no assigned fingerings. Since they already know the song they should be able to make the rhythms accurate. That is to promote some early ear training and to keep it as simple as possible so your child can feel the success and fun of playing a song. You will notice there are not rhythmic values in the music. The better you get the more fun it is! Learn with them, play with them and this will be a great experience for you and your child. ![]() I usually wait at least 3 seconds before stepping in to show them the note, usually they remember on their own and they will feel proud! The piano is DAUNTING at first and it may take some practice and discipline before they start loving to play the songs. Your child will be most successful if you are there to assist them! Assist does not mean show them everything. Watch how excited they get when the song starts to come together. Step #3: Watch as your child gains confidence and familiarity with the piano. Don’t see a song your child likes? Send me a message requesting one of their favorite songs and I’ll see what I can do! ![]() Step #2: Pick some of your favorite songs from the shop. The videos can be watched at your own pace. Step #1: Watch the FREE First Piano Journey piano tutorials found on YouTube. Kids learn best through play and that is what I tired to accomplish with these videos and songs. Do you have a child interested in piano or do you WANT your child to be interested in the piano? Have you thought about piano lessons but you are not sure if they are ready? You have come to the right place.įirst Piano Journey makes playing familiar songs easy by using a musical staff children can understand! I have a Bachelors in Music and have been teaching for 13 years and this is the BEST way I have found to teach the notes.
